Cult Clash: 3 Killed In Rivers

At least three persons, including a woman, were reportedly killed during a clash between two rival cult groups in Bane and Kpaa communities of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was leant that two persons were killed in Bane community while a woman was shot dead in Kpae community during the clash.

Bane is the home-town of the slain foremost environmental activist and former President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Kenule Saro-Wiwa.

The chairman, caretaker committee of Khana Local Government Area of the state, Mr.Hyacinth Nwiye, who confirmed the incident, said he personally went to the Bori Police Station in the area to see the corpses and even as he confirmed that there was a headless body amongst those killed.

Nwiye said; “When I heard about the incident, I quickly called the DPO to find out what happened. I went there myself also and when I got there, I discovered that the corpses have been brought to the police station.

“I went with them to the mortuary where the corpses were deposited. I later discovered that one of the cultists was shot dead and beheaded. His head was taken away.”

We went with the police to take the headless body to the mortuary.”

He explained that the motive behind frequent cult clashes in the area could not be ascertained and called on the Police to investigate the clash.

The police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, Ahmad Mohammad could not be reached to confirm the incident.
