The Ijaw Justice Forum (IJF) has admonished the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State against politics of falsehood, if at all it wants to be taking seriously.
The group stated this in a reaction to a statement credited to the party signed by Jerry Needam alleging that Gov. Amaechi and Senator Abe were booed at the Ogoni Day celebration.
In a press statement signed by its National Coordinator Mr. Tom Douglas, the forum said it was disheartening to read the deliberate falsehood orchestrated by the PDP against the Ogonis and the government of Rivers State.
It described the Statement as totally untrue, observing that “It is either the PDP, state chairman, Felix Obuah was not there at the event or he is deliberately turning the overwhelming cheers the Senator got from his people to jeers, due to his contorted mindset”.
The Forum while felicitating with the people of Ogoni on the success of the Ogoni Day celebration, lauded them for supporting the state governor as well as the Senator representing Rivers South-East in the National Assembly stressing that such support is what many Nigerian leaders lack.
The group hailed Governor Amaechi for his humility and support for the implementation of the UNEP report which the Federal Government has failed to carry out and praised the supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike for criticizing President Jonathan over the delay in implementing the report.
“It is rather unfortunate that the PDP will be involved in the politicization of a grave issue such as the implementation of the UNEP report. Such trait further betrays the peoples’ trust in the party especially from progressive minded persons” the statement said.
The Forum maintained that no amount of intimidation or blackmail will stop the Ijaw people of Rivers State who believe in truth and justice from supporting the Ogonis to occupy government House, Port Harcourt come 2015.
On the decision of the state governor and other stakeholders to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the group said it was a development that would in the shortest possible time take the state to a higher level.
