The Judicial commission of enquiry set up by the Rivers State government to look into the July 9 and 10 crisis that rocked the state house of assembly has reiterated its call for adequate public participation in the ongoing public hearing.
The Commission, Chaired by Justice Biobele Georgwill said all parties involved in the matter would be treated equally and fairly in all the proceedings.
Justice Georgwill added that his commission would carry out thorough investigation and painstakingly review the facts and evidences that would be placed before it.
However, when the commission resumed hearing, counsels to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ken Astuwete and counsel to the 27 Lawmwkers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Barrister Damian Okoro asked for some time to enable them put all their papers together before the commission’s first public hearing.
Chairman of the Commission, Justice Biobele Georgewill adjourned to thursday, August 15, 2013 for the next public hearing.
Meanwhile, one of the five anti-Amaechi lawmakers and member representing Port Harcourt constituency 3 in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Ihunwo has filed a suit at a Port Harcourt High court asking the court to stop the commission of enquiry from going ahead with its hearing.
In the suit, he argued that the basis on which the commission was constituted was illegal, adding that the Rivers State government was also a party in the crisis.
The complainant, Victor Ihunwo noted that the commission would be biased in its ruling.
After taking arguments from counsels of both parties, the presiding Judge, Justice Iyayi Lamikanra adjourned to Friday 16, August for further hearing on the matter.
