Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi says he plans to build a N1 billion ecumenical centre in fulfillment of part of his pledge to God to further the gospel.
He made the disclosure at the 14th International Women Conference of the Wailing Women Worldwide held at Civic Centre yesterday in Port Harcourt.
Amaechi said the centre forms part of his vow to God to propagate the gospel after he won the governorship tussle. “I promised God two more things I said God I will evangelise for you… “I am not a priest or a man of God but I’m a child of God. I can’t preach but to share with you the testimonies of God.”, the governor said.
He said, he had approached the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the years, but regretted that the body had failed to acquire a land in the new city for the building, noting that he would no longer wait.
Amaechi said failure of CAN to acquire a land for the project may delay the project, hence he has no option but to go ahead and build a house for God.
Speaking on the political crisis that engulfed the state, Governor Amaechi said he is not new to such political machinations, recalling that all through his political life, he had gone through one challenge or the other.
Rather than get discouraged, the governor was of the view that the political machinations make him stronger and more courageous since he had God on his side.
“Just be patient and see the handwork of God,” Amaechi said, “I’m gradually going back to what I experienced in Ghana. But I have resumed calling God.”
He pointed out that once he lays his worries before God in prayers, he ventures ahead to do what he feels is right, stressing that what matters most is God’s presence and support than that of man.
“Once we have God all problems would be solved. It’s not what would happen to me but what God says” Amaechi emphasised.
The Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) therefore urged the Christian Women Groups to cling tight to God at all times, assuring them that God answers prayers of women, as he pledged government support to the week-long conference.
Earlier on, Guest Speaker and Chairman of CAN in Rivers State, Rev Zilly Aggrey, expressed happiness that women from all parts of the world shunned all racial differences to gather for Christ.
Rev. Aggrey urged them to continue in their vision saying, God answers prayers of women, further stating that God has given mandate to women to pray for the family and for their nation.
