Newly elected President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) Legborsi Pyagbara has announced the dissolution of the Kingdom Coordinators appointed by former interim committee Chairman, Prof. Ben Naanen. Naanen, the former MOSOP leader had unilaterally named new coordinators in the heat of disagreements with MOSOP Coordinators over the the way the organization was run under Prof. Ben Naanen.
Commenting on the development, Chairman of the Kingdom Coordinators Forum commended the new move stating that Mr Pyagbara would have acted disingenuously had he not stood on the side of democracy. Recognizing the election of MOSOP Coordinators and all others who have been elected and sworn in before the coming of Prof. Ben Naanen on January 4, 2012 is commendable and a sign that the new leader recognizes that sustaining the struggle led by MOSOP is our collective responsibility and not to be run for personal gains Mr. Frank said.
Mr. Frank said ‘it is commendable that Pyagbara understands the illegalities of Prof. Ben Naanen and has decided allow the wishes of the people stand with the recognition of the Kingdom Coordinators elected by the people.
Mr. Frank however maintained that the Coordinators will continue to pursue current issues in court insisting that the court is one of the best ways to seek redress for violations.
The MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators had been in court to stop the elections that brought in Legborsi Pyagbara as MOSOP President on the grounds that it violated the decisions of the MOSOP Steering Committee and were not conducted in line with the provisions of the MOSOP Constitution.
