Briefing newsmen yesterday in Port Harcourt, Head of Communications of Social Action, Vivian Belonwu said the lady who later gave up the ghost at an uncompleted building in the area was allegedly chased out of the camp with her three children on the orders of the Deputy governor of the state, Engr Tele Ikiru.
While calling for a thorough probe into the allegation, the NGO feared that the eviction was largely responsible for the death of the HIV lady. According to the group, she became dejected and abandoned at the uncompleted building where she reportedly gave up the ghost.
The group further demanded for redress for the children of the deceased lady whose ages were put at 9, 3 and 2, stressing that the alleged action of the state flood management committee violated the rights of the children and their late mother to shelter, human dignity, protection against discrimination.
The NGO played back video recordings of the interaction they had with the lady on the issue before her demise.
Meantime, when contacted, the Deputy governor who was also Chairman of the state Flood relief management committee, Engr Ikiru said he was not aware of the incident, adding that there was no time he gave orders that a lady with HIV should vacate the camp.
The Deputy governor who spoke through his media aide, Mr Biobele Wariboko said it was sad that the allegation was coming up after the camp had been shut and the state committee on flood management dissolved.
