An Insider Looks at Governor Ameachi’s Lecture At Duquesne University

At the MBA in Sustainability Program at Duquesne University, Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi says today’s Africa is full of opportunities. Governor Ameachi was speaking during the Dr. Wasieleski’s ethics’ class last Tuesday at the Duquesne University. An insider takes a look at the Rt. Honourables’ speech.

We had an opportunity to hear the Right Honorable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi speak during Dr. Wasieleski’s ethics’ class last Tuesday.

Governor Amaechi and a contingent of Nigerian governmental leaders and doctoral candidates from Rivers State were in Pittsburgh to discuss economic development with Duquesne University faculty and meet with regional entrepreneurs affiliated with our Small Business Development Center. In his presentation to our class, Governor Amaechi outlined a value proposition for expanding business operations to Africa, especially Nigeria.

He also spoke at length on his public policy initiatives within Rivers State.   By using tax revenue from the oil giants that have established themselves in the region, his government has built schools, improved infrastructure, and established a special fund for the future needs of Nigerian youth.

They have worked extensively to strengthen the justice system and improve governmental transparency, which is fundamental for establishing an attractive business environment.  Governor Amaechi envisions creating a stronger, more sustainable through partnerships that will enable workers to pull themselves out of poverty and into the middle class.

After the formal remarks, our question and answer session was quite lively.  Our questions ranged from optimal practices for sustainable development in Africa to the amount of civic corruption in Nigerian politics. Although he answered our questions candidly, he remarked that he wasn’t expecting such challenging questions from MBA students. I guess that no one told him that we were sustainable MBA students.
