The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has commended the commitment of the Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi-led administration towards the renovation of the entire complex of the State Newspaper Corporation, publishers of the Nigerian Tide.
Chairman of NUJ in the state, Mr. Opaka Dokubo said this when he led members of the State Working Committee (SWC) on a courtesy visit to the General Manager of RSNC, Mr. Celestine Ogolo in his office in Port Harcourt.
Dokubo specifically commended the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Seminatari for her efforts in ensuring the speedy take-off of the renovation exercise just few weeks after the administrative section of the Tide building went up in flames.
He said; “We want to express our gratitude to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Seminatari for the speedy nature, renovation work began in the Tide building.
“This development gives us the courage to say that all the state government promised to do for us would be fulfilled.”
The Chairman also commended the management of RSNC for the cordial relationship it has with the Union, saying journalists in the state will forever cherish what the Corporation did for the NUJ through the provision of a temporary secretariat for it.
Responding, the General Manager of RSNC, Mr. Celestine Ogolo reassured the leadership of NUJ in the state of the continued support from the management of the corporation, pointing out that the corporation was satisfied with what journalists working in the Nigerian Tide Newspaper have done so far.
