ACN Critcises Governor Amaechi Over Poor Sanitation in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Action Congress of Nigeria says the State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has proved the party right on the increasing dirtiness of Port Harcourt, in spite of close to half a billion naira, the governor claims he spends monthly on refuse disposal in the city.

The party was reacting to the confession of the governor on a live Radio programme, on Radio Port Harcourt, 97.1 FM on Wednesday, in Port Harcourt.

The Governor while answering questions on the live radio programme confessed that Port Harcourt has increasingly moved from a Garden City to a garbage city status. The Governor also disclosed that refuse disposal has been politicized.

We welcome the public confession of Governor Amaechi and commend him for swallowing his pride and publicly in accord with the position of the ACN, acknowledged that under his administration the State Capital notwithstanding  spending close to half  a billion naira monthly,  the city remains dirty.

We are pleased to note confessions of the Governor accepting the position of the ACN that refuse disposal in the state is politicized.

The Action congress of Nigeria has been critical of Gov Amaechi over the politicization of refusal disposal contract in the State.

The Governor, the ACN makes bold to say has turned blind eye to the gross neglect of their duties because most of the refuse disposal contractors are his relations, political allies and top brass in the Peoples Democratic Party, Independent National Electoral Commission and the Judiciary.

The Action Congress of Nigeria recalls the activities of one Mr Best, half brother of the governor using the name of the Rivers State Sanitation Authority to purchase, distribute and retail waste disposal bins to commercial buses and taxis in the state.

The ACN also recalls the catastrophe, confusion, cruelty and controversy that made the acquaintance of the waste disposal bin and the refusal of the Governor to order a halt to the activities of his half brother, despite the outcry and petitions from motorists in the state were sent to him and made public.

The party calls on Governor Rotimi Amaechi to make public names of refuse disposal contractors and details of how close to one billion naira is spent monthly on disposal of refuse.

The party also demands public apology from the Governor for making Port Harcourt a garbage city under his watch.
