MOSOP Denies Claims of Ogoni Independence, Calls for Ogoni State Creation

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People says the people of Ogoni has not declared independence for the Ogoni people. Citing the “Ogoni Bill of Rights” which was presented to the people and government of Nigeria in 1990, MOSOP says what the Ogoni people want is the right to self determination and not political independence as represented by the media.

In a telephone chat with Ogoninews, Chairman of MOSOP Coordinators Forum Jonah Frank said the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People cannot act contrary to the claims of the Ogoni people as clearly stated in the “Ogoni Bill of Rights”.

He called on the government of Nigeria to commence the process of state creation for the Ogoni people to guarantee their proper participation in the affairs of Nigeria noting that a country that oppresses the weak and takes all her resources and leaves her with nothing violates the rights of the people.

Mr. Frank also called on all Ogoni people to remain despite government harassment and sponsored attacks on some communities in the area in a bid to take over their farmlands for a banana project.
