Kugba: Our Sacred Land By Komene Famaa

Kugba: Our Sacred Land.

(By Komene Famaa)

”We sailed in our canoe

From Kugba our sacred place

of worship

And where Ogoni took its roots

Kugba is the place

Where men, women and children emerged,

coming out strong and brave

Kugba inculcates into all

Farming, fishing and tapping of Palm wine

Used for libation to appease the Ogoni gods

So that our crops can grow bountifully

In our well tendered farmlands at

Ekpote, Nama, Bani, Gure, Kaa and Kale

Men, women and children of Kugba

Were brave and fearless

They dare the Atlantic ocean with its

Waves, storms tropical climate

And torrential , and windy rainfalls

Going to the Cameroon’s for seasonal

fishing expeditions

Returning home to Kugba with money,

foreign goods

Always ready to war and defeat enemies

From neighboring communities

And city states at our common borders

We went with our canoes

And other war regalia

Arriving at WiiBani and Kale

For farming, and fishing

And as temporary abode

After fishing expedition ends

Before the final leg of our journey back

To Kugba- the original home of the gods

and people of our land

Protection and guidance was the key of

Kugba’s traditional government

Where spirits and gods are called up and they

Stay amongst the people providing protection

To defend and protect our Kugba land and people

Like a caring father does to his children and property

Kugba, abode of forests, fishes and yams.

Purely used for medicinal herb and purposes

Kugba is Guided by

Ecology, economy and equality”

The magic of thinking big !!

Kugba which also means ”Nama” tell the story of Ogoni. The place is in Sii of Babbe Kingdom of Ogoni. This is a site that needs to be turned into a sacred site and museum to learn about the Origin of Ogoni. I (Komene Famaa) am currently putting all my thoughts and experiences together as I  had travelled to all the continents of the world preaching the gospel of MOSOP. The poem entitled “Mid Night Summer” exemplified.  It is an interesting piece of work that will be well praised.

Check this site in the future for more poems and stories from Komene Famaa.
