EDITORS

MR KENNEDY B. GIBBS

Kennedy B. Gibbs Kennedy B. Gibbs
hails from Kekara Zaakpon of Babbe District/Kingdom in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. He is an Engineering student at the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori.

He applied as a volunteer for the role of an editor in this esteemed non-political organization and that his roles/duties as regard to his office are summarized thus:

Though, the news editor is one of the most important person who plan a daily news routine in a media organization. Intelligent and enterprising news editor is the vital spark which energies its news coverage and outlook. Hence, an editor is responsible for a steady and continues inflow of up-to-the minute news in any media outfit. Although, most of the news supplied is a mechanical process covered by daily routine, but like all machinery of news gathering, the news editor is responsible for watching its smooth functioning. The news editor keeps a careful eye on the routine side of his news collection as well as on news desk which call for more imaginative emulation. Perhaps, an ideal news editor manages to get all the obvious stories into his paper (if in print media) with a good proportion of them as exclusives. While the selection of obvious stories is important, greater importance is attached to the original ones produced by his team of correspondents.

The news editor is called upon to use his discretion, discrimination and imagination in reading the public mind and select the stories which have real news value and can be called important by his readers-quite a large number to be allotted a “splash” position on the main news pages according to the subject matter 01 field of activity they are concerned with. An intelligent news editor has to make a judicious follow-up of a seemingly promising paragraph or sometimes even make further enquiry before finalizing the story and give it the perfect shape he wants.

All this has to be done with an alertness to ensure that the kind of stories readers seek shall be found whether in print media or electronic.

His decision to be on the editorial team of HURAC is not far fetch from building a career in this profession; having work in the print media since 2006 and has developed so much adoration for the dissemination of information, this was an opportunity for him to serve his people in his home country and in diaspora through this medium as to inform them on the current happening in our region and beyond. Reading the current happening on HURAC page which is free from bias would herald the trust and confident of our numerous readers and as well paint a good picture about the organization.

In recent times, clarion call has been made from all quarters calling on whosoever that is fighting for any course in our dear country, Nigeria not to use violence. That brings to my mind the word of our hero, Ken Saro-Wiwa, when he said “the Ogoni people would fought peacefully, non-violently and we shall win” also he challenged Nigeria that “They can succeed in killing the messenger but they can’t in any way kill the message”. Hence, this club is coming at the time that the Ogoni struggle is suffering a great set back, so as to propagate the gospel of Ogoni struggle, amplification is what that is important at this time. He is single and his hobbies are: Cooking, Playing Football, Reading books, and singing.

MR LEDISI BAADOM BARA-OL
photoMy name is Ledisi Baadom Bara-ol, from Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State. I actually applied for the role of an editor with HURAC. The reason I intend doing the work of an editor I have always wanted to be partner with anything that has to do with the Niger Delta struggle particularly MOSOP. The impact I expect to give is to add other captivating news, share the pages of our club in various places to enhance more views and comments from our honourable readers, and finally, for the empowerment of the youths: basically their voices are first heard through the media. I’m fun-loving, having the people’s mandate at heart.

WRITERS

MR BARIAGARA MEETING
Bari-agara Meeting I am your fellow brother Mr Bari-agara Meeting from Babbe kingdom of Ogoni living in Bori region. I have strongly stood firm and decisively concluded to be a writer with HURAC, whose uppermost responsibility/role is to write and present non-discriminatory articles whose contents are based on matters affecting us as a group- especially the Ogonis. I am too young to say this but I must say it, I have resolved to bring to the awareness of the people things that are less explicit and also to gears their thoughts and intellects towards issues affecting the minorities. HURAC is an organisation that the Ogonis were waiting for, for some decades now, because it would shake our sub-conscious hearts and exposes us to some of the folding things in our economy which our so-called leaders had being hiding from us without any tangible reasons. As an individual, I vow to work under this capacity as an online writer to this organisation – HURAC

I had measured up to this standard some couples of years ago and I will not hesitate in any condition to continue this privilege of service offered to me. My responsibilities/roles should be given a due regard and it should be considered “ever” in this domain. I finally encourage readers to be more optimistic and anticipates for good and courage. I LOVE HURAC!!”

CLINTON K. NKABANWA
Clinton K. Nkabanwa. I am Clinton K. Nkabanwa. I’m from Barakara in Bunu Tai, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. I am a writer with HURAC. As a member of this team, my prospective duties are

* Producing the contents of the website, and any expression by HURAC on facebook, twitter, and other social media,
* Working with the editorial team to determine dates for publication,
* Originating new ideas, and propose ways to pull together or link stories thematically and geographically, and to add in depth coverage on issues,
* Contributing to the editorial process such as suggesting potential article topics, among others which may come up as we proceed.
My decision of becoming a writer in HURAC is as a result of my zeal for volunteering services and to be part of those struggling for the Ogoni/Niger Delta people’s development through information and other legal means. Meeting the above which is part of HURAC’s aims and objectives will aid its speedy developments and achievements.
The Ogonis and the Niger Deltans at large seriously need a body like HURAC to tell the lager world about them and things affecting them so that they can be attended to accordingly.
I have strong belief for justice. I believe that Christians are the salts of the earth. I also believe that education is the best legacy we can leave for our children.
