Poem: Ogonibird By Komene Famaa

Ogonibird

(By Komene Famaa)

Ogoni bird is black

Black black Ogonibird

Tucks black bill in

And lowers hooded eyes

To gaze down gleaming sheen

Of wing and plume

Exquisite

Ogonibird

Ogoni flower blooms black, black blossom

Root and shoot black

Shaft and petal black

Black flower- bed black

Black body of Ogoni black

Blacker than a black tulip black

Mortified

Ogoniflower

And the rain that rains in Ogoni

Rains black

Black acid on ocean back black

Black ash on fish net

Net fishing

Fish fled fish free sea

Black rain

On bent back husbandry

Hoe held high yield

Ogoni basket

Barren

Ogoni blood burns

Life force death force

Fire

Flares

Black earth black air black water

Black bird black bloom black bush black baby

Black black

All black

Fertile Ogoni

Fruitless

But the spirit lifts the people

And the people hope
