Tinubu Appoints Ibas as Rivers State Administrator Amid Political Crisis

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd) as the new Administrator for Rivers State following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state’s House of Assembly. This decision, announced during a nationwide broadcast, aims to address the political and security challenges in the region. Tinubu affirmed that the judicial arm of Rivers State will continue its constitutional duties and that Ibas will not create new laws, but may formulate regulations subject to approval by the Federal Executive Council. The move is intended to restore order in Rivers State.
