June 12: Shehu Sani States What Should Be Done To Ken Saro-Wiwa’s Family

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani, has urged the Federal Government to tender an unreserved apology to the family of activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni people.

Saro-Wiwa was hanged alongside nine others on November 10, 1995 by the Sani Abacha junta for his environmental activism in the Niger Delta.

In the same vein, Sani also named other Nigerians that should be honoured for their contributions to the June 12 struggle.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday bestowed national honours on Chief MKO Abiola, Amb. Babagana Kingibe, and Chief Gani Fawehinmi for their roles in the struggle to enthrone democracy in the country.

Sani himself was jailed by the Sani Abacha junta for life in 1995, which was later commuted 15 years imprisonment, for his June 12 activism.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle, the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator said, “There’s need for the FG to tender an unreserved apology to the families of Ken Saror Wiwa and his Ogoni Kinsmen and honour the 9 and the 4 Ogonis with national honours.Same should be done to late Gen Shehu Musa Yar’adua.Dr Beko Kuti & Chima Ubani must also not be forgotten.”
