Ogoniland cleanup: Council appoints Dekil as project coordinator

The Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed, has announced the appointment of Dr. Marvin Barinen Dekil by the Governing Council as the new Project Coordinator for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, (HYPREP), for the implementation of UNEP report for the Ogoniland cleanup. The appointment is for a period of four years.

In a statement signed by the Director of Press of the Environment ministry, Yusuf Isiaka, the minister disclosed that the emergence of Dr. Dekil was based on an international competitive process, adding that, out of over 290 applicants, 30 were interviewed, with the top three applicants presented to the Governing Council.

She charged the appointee to see the appointment as a call to national duty, and urged him to deliver results in the lives of people as he coordinates the implementation of the UNEP Report.
