The Minister of Environment, Hajia Amina Mohammed, has said the Rivers State Government would be involved in the implementation of the UNEP Report on Ogoni as the process was beyond partisan politics.
She spoke on Thursday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, when she paid a courtesy visit on the state Governor, Nyesom Wike.
The minister, who was reacting to the concern raised by the state governor that the state be fully involved in the process, said her ministry has set up a committee to plan the launch of the programme, adding that the committee would have two representatives of the state government.
She said the clean-up exercise is a long term project that would last 25 years.
According to her, the interaction with stakeholders has led to more inclusion as they head towards the launch of the UNEP Report.
Wike had explained that the state government requested for inclusion in the implementation of the UNEP Report because it is interested in a safe environment for the Ogoni people.
He said although the UNEP Report is a Federal Government project, it is necessary for the Rivers State Government to be included in the processes.
