The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tamunoiyoriari Parker has expressed satisfaction that the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital has swung into full operation after the initial lull caused by the Ebola Virus scare.
The Commissioner stated this during an unscheduled spot check at the hospital to find out if the hospital had commenced full operations after the NMA strike and the Ebola Virus Scare in Port Harcourt.
Parker, who visited the various departments and units of the hospital said he was impressed with the large turnout of patients and health workers attending to them.
According to him, there was no cause for alarm concerning Ebola, stating that health workers must always have a high index of suspicion for all febrile illnesses.
Dr. Parker who admonished some staff whom he saw working without aprons and gloves, said it was mandatory for health workers to ensure that they observed universal safety precautions while working, stressing that the work environment must be safe for them to work.
“If it is not safe, do not work”, the commissioner emphasized.
