The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for fraudulent activities in the state civil service as the year 2014 begins.
Governor Amaechi restated this Friday at the Government House Staff End of Year Party in Port Harcourt.
The governor, who was represented by the Government House Chief of Staff, Chief Tony Okocha, urged the staff to shun absenteeism and lateness to work to enable effective administration for the development of the state.
He expressed the need to work as a family, promising fair rewards to hardworking staff, while appealing for forgiveness in any area he may have offended any staff.
On certain allowances requested b the staff of Government House, Governor Amaechi promised to handle the request accordingly, as he urged them to maintain their good working relationship with government to move the state to the next level in 2014.
Chief Tony Okocha observed that some staff had failed in their various duties, and assured that the administration would not tolerate any dereliction of duty by staff.
He assured the staff of valuable reward for diligence and had work to make the administration succeed in 2014.
Speaking at the occasion, the chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Rivers State, Mr Ngo Martins Yellowe, noted that consistent falsification of age by staff of the state government, said any person caught falsifying his or her age would not only be given compulsory retirement but sacked for fraud.
He expressed the need for staff of the state government to always apply the civil service rule in their work.
Martins-Yellowe frowned at the lukewarm attitude to work by some staff of the state civil service, and urged them to work hard to ensure that Governor Amaechi’s administration maintains its enviable standard this year.
Also speaking, the permanent secretary, Government House, Mr Fortune Ogwu, appealed for more allowances for the staff of Government House to spur them to work extra hard for the state.
Mr Oguru, who commended Governor Amaechi for his good working relationship with staff, implored staff to take their job seriously.
He thanked God for His grace to protect the staff in the New Year. The end of year programme included Merit Awards to dedicated staff of Government House, honorary awards to nine retirees while the next-of-kin of deceased staff of the Government House staff received token gifts from the government.
