Rivers crisis: Wike gives Amaechi conditions, as Obuah, others call for his resignation

PDP: Wike rules out zoning in Rivers

Minister of state for education, Nyesom Wike has given Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi condition for reconciliation.

Wike at a Grassroot Development Initiative event that took place at Omoku, Ogba-Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Council in Rivers State said Amaechi was not the only individual that could give conditions.

He said for Amaechi to get back the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, structure in Rivers State, he should first relinquish the Supreme court mandate that was given to him in 2007 to former Governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia.

The Minister vowed that without that, Governor Amaechi should accept defeat.

According to him, “No amount of going to another state to give condition can change anything. What people don’t understand is that they will push some people to the wall and the people will react.

“We are good people, we are willing to make peace. We are willing to surrender the party structure if you will also surrender that mandate the court gave you in 2007. Give it back to the man who owns the mandate. The time has come, there is nothing you can do again.

“Let me tell you something, anybody who says Jonathan will not come back, let him go to the state which he belongs to. Rivers State has made a decision that come 2015 we will back our son, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan”.

However, Chairman of PDP, Felix Obuah at the same gathering called on Governor Amaechi to step aside.

Obuah said the number of people that came to show solidarity to GDI was evident that the people of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni were tired of Governor Amaechi’s administration

Similarly, former governorship candidate of the All Nigeria peoples party, ANPP, at the 2007 election, Sergeant Awuse also called for Amaechi’s resignation.

He alleged that the Governor had lost the support of Rivers people, noting that “You cannot stand before a moving train. Amaechi has failed Rivers people. If Jonathan should have opposition, his opposition should not come from Rivers state. Amaechi has failed Rivers people despite all the money he is getting. All he does is to move the money to other states. We reject him totally. Amaechi has failed us. He should resign”.

Meanwhile, Oba of ogba land, Eze Chukwumele Nnam Obi II has called on political bigwigs in Rivers state to maintain peace and unity in the state.

Eze Obi II gave the advice when minister of state for Education led Felix Obuah and members of GDI to pay him homage.

While calling on Rivers people and the people of South-South to support president Goodluck Jonathan to be re-elected in 2015, Eze Obi admonished his visitors to promote true democracy.

He also called on those opposing president Jonathan’s second term bid to drop the argument.
