Rivers deputy speaker assures Ogoni people of more projects •As govt commissions 7 water constituency projects

The Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Honourable Leyii Kwanee, has assured the Ogoni people that  Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s administration will continue to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.

Speaking at the commissioning of water projects in Khana Constituency 11, in Khana Local Government Area of the state, the Deputy Speaker, said that the projects are parts of the many projects the Ogoni will benefit from the present administration.

Kwanee, who is the member representing Khana Constituency II in the Assembly, said although the projects were nominated by him as his 2013 constituency projects for the area, in fulfillment of his campaign promises, the Amaechi-led administration deserves great commendation for the completion of the projects on record time.

He said the projects are seven water projects, six boreholes with full treatment plant in seven communities which are Luudee, Seme, Ka-Loore, Baa-Loore, Yae, De-Luebe and Lua-Luebe.

Kwanee said that the government was concerned about the source of potable clean water for the area as many streams and rivers in Ogoniland, have been contaminated by oil pollution, adding that that was the crux of the UNEP report in Ogoniland.

In his own speech while commissioning the projects, the Commissioner for Works, Chief Victor Giadom, charged the communities to protect the water installations in the area, pointing out that the projects now completed, were theirs and should provide them with security.

Earlier, Chief Saturday Nwiaode, on behalf of the communities, commended the governor for remembering them, pointing out that before the completion of the projects, the only source of water was the river which was polluted by oil exploration.
