FG May Revoke Emergency Rule In North East – Jonathan’s aide

Four months after the proclamation of the emergency rule in three north east states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, there is a hint that the federal government may revoke the order soon.

The special adviser to the president on security matters, Nasiru  Zaharadeen, who gave this hint in an interview with VOA Hausa Service, noted that prior to the emergency rule, the activities of insurgents and terrorist had been high, thereby  causing fear among citizens and  a near-breakdown of law and order in some parts of the country, but that has changed.

According to him, “Civil unrest can happen  anywhere. England and IRA conflict lasted for 28 years. If a developed nation like England will experience such conflict, that is to say conflict in a developing nation like Nigeria will last for 50 years.

“With the declaration of the emergency rule, terrorism is becoming minimal, he said. “Following the recent development on attacks in the affected state, the emergency rule may be revoked before the six months declared by the president because the president as well as National Assembly are looking into that,” he added.
