Wike vows to hold on to PDP structure in Rivers state

Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State will not be returned to the faction loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi.

Wike, a former Chief of Staff to Amaechi, explained that the governors supporters had demanded a return of the
party structure to them as one of the conditions to reconcile warring factions in the crisis rocking the state.

The Minister, who is also the Grand patron of the socio-political group, Grassroot Development Initiative, GDI, spoke on Sunday at the inauguration of the Grassroots Development Initiative members, in Ahoada Local Government Council.

He said since the state did not operate an emirate or a monarchy, the structure of the state PDP would not return to Amaechi’s camp.

According to him, “I was watching television last night and I heard some of them saying that one of the conditions they have given is that they should give the party structure to the governor.

“But I say we do not operate emirate system. We do not operate a monarchical
system. So, we do not ‘dash’ out party
structure. The people voted for them. So, we cannot ‘dash’ out party structure. The people voted for him. So we cannot ‘dash’ them anything.”

The minister, also applauded members of the GDI for their support for President Goodluck Jonathan, urging them not to relent in supporting the President.

He noted that the President had performed well and should therefore be encouraged for a second term in office.

On his part, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, said the people had been deceived in the past, adding that the masses would not be deceived again.

Also, Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, Felix Obuah, commended GDI for organising the event stressing that the party was open for everyone.
