Following the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS, said its supports the ongoing strike and has passed a vote of confidence on its President, Dr. Nasir Fagge.
This was stated in a press release issued by NANS President, Comrade,Prince Miaphen, in Jos on Thursday.
According to him, “NANS is in total support of the positions of ASUU that our Educational sector is in shamble and disarray.
“We also support ASUU’s insistence that Government should provide proper funding to all higher institutions in the country.”
Adding that, “We wish to therefore State that ASUU’s strike actions and demands are genuine and very timely in other to rescue our educational sector from total collapse.
He decried that, “Our hostels are in total mess, our classrooms are largely over-crowded with so many students standing up during lectures, our Laboratories have collapse with cobwebs surrounding everywhere. No adequate water and electricity supplies on our various campuses, and in fact, nothing seems to be working.
NANS called on millions of Nigerian students to support ASUU in their quest to rescue the educational sector.
Miaphen further stated that, NANS sees no reason why the political class will be earning and being paid so much money while lecturers are
suffering and grossly under paid.
They urge Nigerian leaders to emulate the virtues and democratic credentials of Nelson Mandela.
He said, “On a lighter not,e NANS wishes Nelson Mandela a happy Birthday and quickest recovery”.
