Omehia Sues For Peace To End Crisis

The former governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia has urged the Rivers State Government under the leadership of Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and all those against his style of administration to embrace peace as the only way towards unity and progress in the state.Addressing newsmen recently at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Sir Omehia said it is the responsibility of Federal Government to ensure that all the states under her are peaceful, adding that Rivers State is not an exception.

He maintained that, since the so called crisis in Rivers State started, several efforts have been made to achieve peace including the recent Judicial Commission of Enquiry made up of experts from the Judiciary, hoping that they would do justice to the present siuation so that, at the end of their findings and investigation, Rivers State which was once peaceful shall regain the lost serene atmosphere.

Sir Celestine Omehia described the intervention of the Federal Government as a right step in the right direction, calling on all Rivers people to be supportive and avoid criss because it is an ill wind that does not do any good to any person. He added that at the end of the investigation both parties would accept the report and bury their differences.

He appealed to all well-meaning Riversmen and women to pray for the peace of the state and to remain calm.

Speaking on the recent suspension of Gov Rochas Okorocha of Imo State,  Sir Omehia commended the party, saying that the party has every right to suspend and dismiss erring members. According to him, “any member found disobeying the rules and regulations of the party ought to be disciplined. He called on other parties to borrow a leaf from APGA.

While commending the party, he stated that no individual  is bigger than the party, pointing out that, party’s guidelines must be adhered to for it to achieve her goals.

It could be recalled that, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) earlier this year had disagreement with members, including Gov Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, who presently  had identified with the All Progressives Congress (APC) without the consent of the party (APGA) members. ###
