Baby Factory Uncovered In PH …As Police Parades Owner, Others

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a fake medical doctor and a specialist in-vitro fertilisation treatment service, Dr Chinyere Emeka Precious, who allegedly induce women with fake pregnancies in the state.
Dr Precious was said to have been injecting desperate barren women with substances to make them appear pregnant, and later arrange stolen babies for the women.
The alleged suspect was paraded along side her collaborators, a couple whose names were given as John Ndubuisi Joseph and Favour Chioma Joseph, who were alleged to have sold day-old babies to the doctor.
The Tide learnt that the female doctor owns and  operates the God’s gift maternity hospital at Elelenwo in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
Parading the suspects at the police headquarters, in Port Harcourt, Monday, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jovinus Iwu, who led the operation, said the suspects were arrested at 100 hours last Saturday, adding that a one-day old baby boy and a woman purportedly in labour were arrested and were being detained.
Iwu disclosed that on August 3, at about 1:am, the unit got information about a baby factory syndicate which specialises in selling day-old babies at Elelenwo in Port Harcourt.
According to him, we met Mrs Precious who claimed to be a medical doctor and runs the factory, adding that they found a day-old baby boy, who was concealed behind the theatre and there was a woman who was reported to have been delivered of a boy.
“When we confronted the woman, she claimed to have undergone fertility treatment with the doctor. But in actual fact, she was not pregnant and was never pregnant. Rather, what they did was hypnotise those women who believed that they were pregnant. They are injected with substances which enlarged their stomach, he said.
They will then place them on treatment for nine months. Before delivery, this syndicate makes arrangement to procure the babies and once the arrangement matured, they will take the women to the threatre or labour room”, he added.
The assistant Commissioner of Police said that at this point, the doctor will inject the women with drugs that will make them unconscious, adding that the women are them leathered with blood all over their body.
According to him, the same blood will also be used on the child, so when she regains consciousness, they will now handover the baby to her, claiming that she had delivered, adding that they will start the second round of treatment, which according to him, is deflate her swollen stomach.
He revealed that most women have fallen victims and it has been going on for years, adding that the services are done at exorbitant prices of between N1.5million and N6million per child.
Iwu added that the recovered baby is at the motherless baby’s home at Borikiri, Port Harcourt.
In her reaction, the suspect said she was a qualified and licensed medical doctor, who has been in practice for years.
She stated that she had never defrauded anybody or committed any crime, revealing her medical practice registration number as 348 from the Nigerian Medical Council, Abuja.
On their part, the couple said they were involved in the crime because of severe accommodation problem they were facing.
