George Alexander Louis has been announced as the name of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s child .
George and Alexander had been two of the bookmakers’ favourites for the royal baby name in recent weeks, and the news should satisfy MSN readers, who opted for both names in our recent poll.
The choices of middle names reflect a traditional choice and mean George’s full name contains elements of those of his father and grandfather. The duke’s full name is William Arthur Philip Louis, while the Prince of Wales was christened Charles Philip Arthur George.
George is a royal favourite, with six previous monarchs having the name, while Louis is the Christian name of the Duke of Edinburgh’s uncle, Lord Mountbatten – a war hero who was killed by an IRA bomb in 1979.
Speaking briefly on their departure from St Mary’s hospital yesterday, William said the baby had “a good pair of lungs on him” and that he and his wife Kate were still “working on a name”. When asked if the name was George, the duke smiled and said “wait and see”.
Kate added that they were both feeling “very emotional” and that it had been a “special time… I think any parent will know what this feeling feels like.”
“He’s got her looks, thankfully,” William said, to which Kate replied: “Not sure about that!”
The family are now residing at the duchess’ parents’ home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, after visits from the Queen and Prince Harry today.
