HURAC 2013 Division 1 Elections: Mr Neebara Kialee Emerged As President

HURAC 2013 Division 1 Elections: Mr Neebara Kialee Emerged As President

HURAC, the organisation vested with the power by the Movement For the Survival of the Ogoni People, MOSOP  to educate school students and Ogoni youth on human rights issues in secondary schools in Ogoni and beyond,  has concluded elections for division 1(RivPolyCSS) of its operating schools.  The event took place yesterday at the organisation’s Bori Unit headquarters (RivPolyCSS) at about 2:30pm (BST) and was attended by a total of 136 students, including HURAC alumni and other delegates.  The elections, which were superseded by Mr Telema Albert Light (who was HURAC president during the 2011/2012 administrative year) as a delegate in the absence of the HURAC Electoral Chairman, Mr Bani NwisaBari had Mr Neebara Kialee emerged unopposed as the President and Ms Menebe Miracle as the Vice President.   Mr Neebara Kialee had been the General Secretary during the Telema/Ogbueri-led administration (2011/2012) and also the acting President of the outgoing Excos before emerging yesterday as the president elect.  Ms Menebe Miracle Muekara, who served as the assistant curator also during the Telema/Ogbueri-led administration competed with Mr Aadum KaBari Bright for the post of the VP.  Ms Miracle won her opponent by a margin of 60 votes, a margin above the minimum as stated in the HURAC constitution, which saw her emerged victoriously as the VP.  It was reported that HURAC Senior Chief Co-ordinator, Mr Ogbomene Barikpoa was absent at the elections yesterday and had tendered his apologies.

Mr Kialee promises to lead the organisation to a new level now that he has been officially declared president.  Among some of his agenda in the new era is the installation of a signpost bearing the organisation name and plan of activities in RivPolyCSS.  He also plans to promote the interest of the club amongst students of RivPolyCSS and to revive the dying spirit amongst the club members in the division II (CSS Bori).  He expresses his happiness for the trust and confidence in him by the students of the division and assures them of a stable year of activism ahead. In addition, he said:

”I will ensure that we have series of human rights seminars as this has been the custom of the club and since many students seem to like going to seminars”

However, he explained that the division faces problems of negligence and lack of support from MOSOP.

Elections were conducted for a total of 10 main offices with some having candidates as being unopposed.  The following now form part of the 2013/2014 HURAC executive board for division 1:

  1. Mr Nwiganaale Baridakara as General Secretary
  2. Ms Buro Golden as Financial Secretary
  3. Ms ZorBari KiisiBari as Welfare Secretary

  6. Mr Baridoo Bariledum Bright as Speaker
