Era of Zoning Is Over – Rivers PDP Chair

The Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Felix Amaechi Obuah has cleared the air on whether elective positions have been zoned to any particular area in the forth coming general elections in the state. The PDP chair, while addressing the crowd during the Grand Finale of the Wards Sensitization Programme of the Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI), Ikwerre Local Government Area chapter, Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Elele Civic Centre, said it became necessary that the Party informed the people earlier that anybody from any of the three senatorial districts of the state can contest and if voted in, serve any capacity he or she is found worthy and capable to occupy.

Chief Obuah however said such mandate to serve in any of the contestable positions must be given by the people through their votes which assuredly, will be ‘one man, one vote’.

He said the 2015 elections offer equal opportunity to every son and daughter of Rivers State, irrespective of his or her ethnic nationality, to contest any position of leadership in the State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He also assured everyone that the era of intimidation and harassment of people from performing their constitutional rights is over, saying no amount of blackmail and threat will deter the present PDP administration in the state from carrying out its genuine democratic programme aimed at bringing peace and development to the doorstep of every community, LGA, and senatorial district of the state.

While describing the Minister of State for Education, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Wike as a leader and Mentor, the state PDP chairman called on the people of Ikwerre and by extension, all Rivers people to support his development initiative, which according to him, cuts across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State.

Giving an eulogy of Chief Wike, Hon Obuah said the Minister is the best performing Minister of State in the Jonathan administration, saying that through his efforts in the Education Ministry, the school system has been sanitized and made better than previously. “It is this kind of transformation that we want to achieve in our dear state and the struggle to save the soul of the state has begun and I charge you all to be part of this vanguard for change and development”, he said.

The Rivers PDP Chairman further called on the people to support President Jonathan and his dear wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, whom he noted have the development of Rivers State at heart and have also demonstrated through juicy appointments to some illustrious sons and daughters of the state, physical development projects in the area and the various empowerment initiatives for women and the youths.

He affirmed that for the 2015 election, the party in the state has no other candidate than President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and his wife Dame Patience Jonathan as the First Lady.

Commenting on some issues in the state, the PDP Chair described the N20,000 planned to be given to 200 persons in each of the 23 LGAs in the state by Governor Amaechi as inadequate, saying such arrangement would have been made for at least 600 persons per LGA, and the money should be increased  to  N80,000 each across the LGAs.

While describing Amaechi’s action as non incentive, Hon Obuah noted that it is a cheat on the people who have suffered significantly and are still struggling to survive the poverty and lack that pervade the state in the face of plenty in the coffers of the governor and his officials.

On the party leadership, Chief Obuah said G. U. Ake and Governor Amaechi stole his mandate, which has been restored through the gallant efforts of a “Political Tiger”, who devoured the powers of those who deprived him of the party leadership.

He explained that when his mandate was stolen, he explored all avenues in search of solution to reclaim it but was frustrated by the manipulative efforts of the Governor and the sacked chairman, G. U. Ake.

“And that is why I am grateful to Chief Nyesom Wike who came to rescue me and restored my mandate. I will continue to support him in whatever he wants to be and at whatever level he wants to go. He is my leader and mentor”, Obuah said.

To the Grassroot Development Initiative, the PDP chairman said he will not fail to support them financially and morally, only if they remain on cause, charging them not to be afraid but to remain committed to the true spirit of the philosophy of the Initiative.

He also assured the Ikwerre people and the state that he will continue to exhibit the spirit of ‘Go Round’ in the discharge of responsibilities and resources.

While appealing for total support for the success of his administration in the state,  he called on the people not to allow themselves to be used against their brother (Wike), who means well for the Ikwerre ethnic nationality and the state at large.###
