Shell in Ogoni: MOSOP Coordinators, Chapter Heads Call Crucial Meeting

Kingdom Coordinators of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) have called a crucial meeting with key chapter leaders to discuss Shell’s return to Ogoniland. A statement by the Chairman of MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators Forum says the meeting is to discuss crucial issues affecting the Ogoni people and make the forum’s position known.

The meeting is expected to chat the course for appropriate response to Shell’s incursions in Ogoni, Mr. Frank said yesterday.

In a chat with Ogoninews yesterday, Mr Frank Jonah said the Coordinators will be meeting this month to discuss the issue of Shell’s return and to make our position known to the world.

He maintained that Shell is looking for trouble and the key thing they want to achieve is to force Ogoniland into another perid of conflicts and military oppression.

Mr Frank said “We have made it very clear that Shell is not needed in Ogoni and we have no confidence in the company’s credibility to keep its words. When Shell says, it is coming into Ogoniland to clean up the area, you can expect that the entire clean up process is already a failure because it is been conducted by a company that lacks credibility and is well known for not keeping to standards.”

Recall that the United Nations report on Ogoniland released in 2011 acknowledged Shell failures in keeping to its own standards. The report which had severally been described as a death sentence on Ogoni had not been implemented nearly two years after its release.

MOSOP has called for the setup of a competent body to fully implement the report and the scrapping of HYPREP, the agency set by the government to implement the report.
