The Rector of Rivers State Polytechnic Bori, Dr Obianka Wolu-Elechi says that the ban on sale of sachet water on the campus was to restore clean environment within the campus.
He said this while briefing newsmen at the school premises recently.
Wolu-Elechi, noted that sachet water (pure water) was one of the reasons for filty environment which the institution is trying to eradicate.
He said since the ban, the environment had brightened up and is now healthy for everyone on campus.
The Rivpoly boss, said that before the ban used sachet water bag normally litter the school, thereby constituting a high level of environmental hazard.
On the issue of supply of the approved bottled water by one source, he said it was false, adding that everyone was allowed to get bottled water from their desired sources.
He also linked poor hygienic nature of pure water production as part of the reasons for the ban, hinting he was treated of typhoid fever the very day he drank sachet water.
According to him, plans are underway to install water treatment machine in the school so that students would spend less on the purchase of potable drinking water.
Though, students are still finding it difficult to adjust to the situation due to the high cost of bottled water.
The Tide gathered that the cheapest bottled water sales at N50.000.
