In a swift reaction to the solidarity visit to the Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi by some Ogoni chiefs and politicians, the Kingdom Coordinators Forum of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) yesterday challenged the government of Rivers State to publicly make known the development projects it has embarked on in Ogoniland.
The MOSOP statement said, the entire Ogoniland is still living without good drinking water, no electricity, the roads are inaccessible, the schools are dilapidated, the young people are unemployed, government is forcefully taking land in Sogho and entire Nyokhana and people are being killed because they resist the forceful land grab, Shell is using the military to force its way into Ogoniland without the people’s consent and all that.
MOSOP wants government to make known the economic and social benefits of the claimed projects on the lives of the Ogoni people, the cost of each project and the stages of completion.
“We cannot understand the commendation to the governor by politicians and contractors to the Rivers State government when things are getting worse for our people and their is seemingly no future for our youths” MOSOP said.
The MOSOP statement urged the Rivers State government to disregard sycophancy and address the problems of education, roads, electricity, water and unemployment as an emergency in Ogoniland.
