The Kingdom Coordinators of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) have voiced their condemnation of a solidarity visit planned by some Ogonis mainly members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party under the aegis of the “Ogoni Ethnic Nationality”.
The MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators and Chapter leaders Forum condemned the planned planned visit to the governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi and dissociated themselves from the move.
A statement by the Chairman of the Coordinators Forum Frank Jonah said “while we do not quarrel with individual or group meetings with the governor of Rivers State or any other government officer, we wish to express our displeasure over a design by some politicians to drag the entire Ogoni people into an issue that bothers on personal interests and sycophancy.
The Coordinators further said “The issue of a solidarity visit to the governor of Rivers State by a group who call themselves the “Ogoni Ethnic Nationality” over the current face-off between the governor and the presidency is nothing short of sycophancy. It beats our imagination that card carrying members of the People Democratic Party (PDP) can put themselves together and choose to say they represent the Ogoni nationality even without the consent of their family members.
The statement by the MOSOP Coordinators expressed disappointment in the so-called elected representatives and elites who will allow their reputation to be rubbished in the name of playing loyalty to a governor over an issue they know nothing about.
The MOSOP Coordinators urged the politicians to always seek wise counsel before jumping into action noting that Ogoni people are focused and committed to sustain their struggle for a better life and cannot be distracted by self-seeking efforts of a few.
