A meeting called by leaders of former militant groups in the Niger Delta was aborted by heavy army presence on Saturday. The meeting which was to hold in Yeghe at the home of a former militant Chief Solomon Ndigbara was could not hold due to the presence of the armed men.
Former militant leaders Ateke Tom and Asari Dokubo were expected at the meeting.
It is not known why the military stopped the ex-militant leaders. Ogoninews investigations could also not reveal the reason why the former militants called the meeting.
One source say the meeting was considered by some politicians in the area as constituting some security risk.
On Friday, March 15, heavily armed soldiers believed to have been drafted from the Bori Camp Barracks in Port Harcourt moved into Yeghe in Ogoni. No arrests were reported.
