State creation a must – David Mark

SENATE President, David Mark, has assured that creation of states is a must, just as he hints that Apa state will soon be a reality.

He stated this in his remark at the 57th general assembly meeting of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) held in Otukpo area of Benue State on Monday, stating that when Apa state was created, Otukpo would surely be the capital city.

Mark, who said he believed in state creation, noted that it would ensure rapid development of the country, stressing that anti state creation had not given cogent reasons to advance their argument.

According to him, “apart from the popular saying that some existing states are not viable, they have not given reasons why other states are viable. So, for me, I support the creation of state and let me say categorically that Otukpo will soon become the capital city of Apa state.

Speaking on BON, Mark charged the organisation to develop an internal mechanism for the purpose of checking erring members so as to balance information the members release to the publics.

He enjoined the organisation to take active part in the ongoing constitutional review as well as take advantage of the Freedom of Information ( FOI) Act and act accordingly within the context in a responsible manner.

He also harped on the need for all broadcasting organisations to go digital by 2015, maintaining that if that was done, it would afford listeners to have the right response.

Benue State governor, Dr Gabriel Suswam, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Stephen Lawani, opined that broadcasting organisations should play a critical role in the constitution amendment process by sensitising Nigerians on topical issues that are billed for amendment.
