Security challenges are under control, Jonathan tells international community

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said that the security challenges currently facing the country would soon become issues of the past, as according to him, ‘’our security challenges are under control.’’.

Jonathan spoke at the decoration of 45 newly promoted Major generals and their equivalents with their ranks, Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister of State for Defence, Olusola Obada noted that “with our new found determination and continued support and partnership, terrorism and other security challenges will soon become issues of the past,”.

Stressing the need for inter-agency cooperation which is essential in dealing with the nation’s security challenges, Jonathan noted that the presence of other security chiefs at the event symbolised the importance of cooperation and synergy in meeting national security needs.

He called on the Armed Forces to foster stronger ties and collaboration with other security agencies towards improving and sustaining national peace and security.

To the decorated officers, he said, “Your promotion is in recognition of your selfless and dedicated service to our armed forces in particular and the nation at large.

“I urge you to live up to this high rank by remaining absolutely loyal to the service and the nation as two- star generals. Our nation expects from you, greater dedication to duty , exemplary leadership and professional excellence.

“At this stage of your career, you must devote your ideas and talents to peace and security and social economic development of our country,’’ he said.
Jonathan however, emphasised that government would continue to support the military and other security agencies to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

Among those decorated included Major General Obi. Abel Umahi, Major General Bola Koleoso, Major General Tukur Buratai, Major General SD Aliyu; the Defence Adviser to China, Major General John Nwaoga, Major General Saliu Uba and Major General Mashudy Adekanye.

In the Navy, Rear Admirals decorated were Ogoigbe, Harry Ngonadi, Ayankpele, JKZ Ango, Henry Babalola, P Ozojiofor, Ofik, and Iwuoha, Egbedina as well as, Rear Admiral PA Agba just as those decorated as Air Vice Marshals included Idowu, Peter Abel, Oguntoyinbo, Odunlade, Ileyeonsi, Lucky Danbaki, Ochei and AVM Seidu.

HURAC is a club instituted by the Movement For the Survival of the Ogoni People, which is open to all secondary schools within and outside Ogoni and also to all intending members. It`s currently operating in Riv-Poly secondary school, its division HQTRS, and also in CSS Bori, ACGS Bori, BMGS Bori and some Portharcourt schools.
