THE new president of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Legborsi Pyagbara, has been charged to use his skills in advocacy to enforce the implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) by the Federal Government in Ogoniland.
Giving this charge in a press statement in Port Harcourt, Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr Leyii Kwanee, also advised the new MOSOP leader to work with the Rotimi Amaechi-led government for the interest of the Ogoni man.
In the statement circulated electronically by his spokesman, David Amusa, Kwanee indicated that though many challenges faced Ogoni people, the cleaning of the polluted environment in Ogoniland was critical and deserved concerted and urgent attention.
Kwanee who is also chairman, parliamentary Exchange and Mentorship Programme of the Pan-African Parliament (PEMP), congratulated the new president and harped on the unity of Ogonis.
He commended him for recognising the importance of unity among Ogoni people and promise to initiate a reconciliation move to bring all Ogoni together in his inaugural speech, adding that such would enable Ogoni to have one loud voice in state and national matters.
