The Rivers State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, says it is not in its character to join issues but to stress relevant points that impinge on good governance for the advancement of democracy in our State. The ACN was reacting to the unnecessary denial by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) that its commissioners are card carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A statement issued and signed by the ACN publicity secretary, Jerry Needam says they stand by their earlier position, stressing further that one condition the RSIEC members were expected to meet before appointment was their membership and loyalty to PDP and preparedness to co-operate.
Jerry Needam challenged the RSIEC management to come out publicly to deny this ‘fact’, saying the ACN is well equipped with evidence to prove their point.
“We are basically not against the RSIEC members as individuals but nonetheless, doubt their neutrality and corporate capacity to conduct free and fair bye and general elections in the state considering the circumstance of their appointment.
The ACN further alleged that with the present RSIEC composition, the forthcoming bye and general elections in ONELGA are just to fulfill all righteousness as the results are already determined before the voting.
“This is simply unfortunate”, the ACN declared.
