Ogoni Day 2013: MOSOP urged to refocus Ogoni struggle

The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has been charged to do its best at moving the Ogoni nation away from old thinking, thus setting it on the path that will help it recover lost time and give opportunity for development.Immediate past leader of the movement, Professor Ben Naanen, who gave this charge at the 20th celebration of the Ogoni Day, held in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Friday, also charged Federal Government to play its role right and stop forcing the people into such uncomfortable positions that make them seek justice from the outside world.

According to the university don, who served as chairman of the MOSOP Provisional Council (MPC) for a year, the movement had provided leadership and shield for the people for years, noting that the current thinking in the Niger Delta and the world around had demanded a shift from old pattern as the needs of the Ogoni people are now specific.

Naanen, who informed that newly elected executives of the MOSOP, who emerged from the election conducted by MPC would subsequently be sworn-in, hinted of how important the creation of Bori State is to Ogoni people.
