He noted that the Ogoni problem has become so precarious because the government failed to act early against Shell’s corporate irresponsibility thereby allowing a high level of impunity in the way oil firms do business in the entire Niger Delta.
The failure of government to act and ensure a decent and healthy mode of operations for oil firms is today costing the government huge sums in the Amnesty programme, he said.
Mr Frank noted this government has a chance to usher in a better society by applying strict penalties for environmental degradationand reviewing all laws that impede the development of a fair and just society.
