MOSOP May Loose Port Harcourt Office Over Unpaid Rent

There are more signs that all is not well with the leading Ogoni rights advocacy movement, The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP). Ogoninews sources reveal that the organization may be thrown out of its Port Harcourt office for unpaid rent.

A leading member of the movement who preferred not to be named told Ogoninews that the property managers have since officially written to the organization(MOSOP) requesting they vacate the office within reasonable period since they can no longer cope with the rent.

The letter noted that the leadership of MOSOP had been communicated on the matter but they have made no comments nor taken any steps to offset the bill. Ogoninews sources reveal that the property managers were particularly irked by the refusal of the MOSOP leadership to respond to over 38 emails sent in respect of the matter.

An insider account has it that MOSOP account had been depleted and the organization has no capacity to offset the rent at this time. The source also disclosed that huge sums of money were left in the account for the running of the organization with the hope that a new executive will be sworn-in before March 2012 but unfortunately, that was not to be as the Caretaker Committee (now MOSOP Provisional Ruling Council) decided to stay till January 3, 2013.

The situation is being compounded by the fact that MOSOP has not made official response to the property managers indicating they are willing to maintain the property.

The MOSOP office in Bori had already been rented to a church – Salvation Ministries for their weekly activities in a drive to raise money for the organization.
