The Electoral Committee Chairman in the Forth-coming elections of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni people (MOSOP) Mr Nwigogbor had been accused of bribing people to persuade them to participate in the elections. The accusation is coming at a time a reconciliation move by some Ogoni elders was failing to resolve the dispute between the MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators and members of the caretaker Committee.
Ogoninews sources reveal thet the Eelectoral committee chairman paid N5,000 to one person in Yeghe in Gokana local government area and N10,000 to another in Nyokhana axis to support their local mobilization and help them affford the cost of picking the forms for the position of kingdom coordinators for the area. Our sources reveal several payments aimed at forcing people get involved in the elections against their conscience.
These moves had been condemned by the MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators Forum who maintain that the activities of the election committee chairman and that of the MOSOP Provisional Ruling Council chairman has badly discredited the entire process. The MOSOP Coordinators have called for a boycott of the elections.
The MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators have allege that the MOSOP Provisional Ruling Council chairman has compromised his integrity and is working in the interest of Shell and the government. This has led to a total failure in the activities of the MOSOP interim committee.
On November 10, Ogoni people boycotted the memorial of the hanging of Ken Saro-Wiwa in Bori Ogoni alleging that the occasion was sponsored by Shell on the consent of the MOSOP Provisional Ruling Council chairman.
Current moves by the MOSOP electoral chairman Ogoninews learnt is further exposing the MOSOP to the people and confirming the claims of the MOSOP Coordinators that the MOSOP Interim Committee is currently on a fast lane to loosing the people’s support.
But the Chairman of the MOSOP Coordinators assures the people that MOSOP is firmly enshrined in the people’s minds and the protest is against the activities of the MOSOP Provisional Ruling Council which runs contrary to the principles of the Organization and jeopardizes the achievements so far made by the Ogoni struggle.
