RSG Flags Off Skills Training Centre In Bori

Amaechi Pledges Commitment to Development at Andoni-Opobo Economic Summit

The Rivers State Government has flagged off a training
programme at the Workmanship and Technical Training Centre (WTTC) Bori.

The centre was
established by the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA)  to equip young men and women of Rivers origin
with skills such as welding and fabrication, electrical/electronic engineering,
mechanical engineering, carpentry, catering, information and communication
technology (ICT) and sewing.

The commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Social Development,
Sir Owene Wonodi who performed the flag-off ceremony at Bori, said that the
centre is inline with the vision of the Rotimi Amaechi government to ensure
that Rivers people were economically empowered to be self reliant.

Sir Wonodi said that the centre which is fully equipped with
state of the art facilities will also provide opportunities for Rivers people
to take over some of the jobs in the oil and gas industry.

He advised the trainees to take advantage of the centre by
improving their skills, stressing that the Rivers State Government will not
relent in its efforts to provide a conducive environment for entrepreneurial
activities in the state.

Also speaking, the Executive Director of the Rivers State
Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) Mr Noble Pepple said that the
centre  which is affiliated to Hybrid
College United Kingdom and the Bonny Vocational Centre (BVC) will offer the
best opportunities in skills acquisition to the people of Rivers State.

Mr Pepple who described vocational training as very critical
in the socio economic development of the state said that the centre will go a
long way in checking capital flight from the country.

He said: “we have some of the best support to ensure quality
training in the WTTC” and expressed the hope that the trainees upon graduation
will replicate what they have learnt outside.

The representative of the Commissioner for Empowerment and
Employment Generation, Mr Moses Harry described the centre as one of the best
things that has happened  in Rivers State
and commended the RSSDA for the initative.
