Rivers ACN Blames Frequent Road Accident on Bad Roads

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Rivers State has blamed the frequent road mishaps in the state especially those that involved takers, on bad roads. Saddened by the latest tanker accident which occurred as a result of bad road and nearly led to explosion at Industry Road, close to NPA, Port Harcourt, ACN asserted that it is high time Amaechi government took concrete steps to rehabilitate Rivers Roads, which it describes as death-traps.

ACN in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Jerry Needam, notes that Rivers roads are riddled with potholes which make it dangerous for drivers to pass easily and consequently results to frequent minor and fatal motor accidents.

It worries the party that despite the billions of naira Rivers State Government says it has spent on road maintenance and its consistent sloganeering on operation zero potholes. Rivers roads still remain riddled with dangerous potholes.

The party wonders where the money had gone into and requests the Rivers State Government to set up investigative team to find out what has happened to the billions, allocated for roads rehabilitation.

ACN, which recalls the 0kogbe tanker tragedy that occurred at East-West Road, near Ahoada, believes that when these dangerous potholes on these roads are filled and other roads in very bad shapes in the state rehabilitated, motor vehicle accidents will be drastically reduced.

It is against this backdrop that it calls on Rivers State Government to stop paying lip-service to the issue of road maintenance and move into concrete action immediately to rehabilitate these dilapidated roads spread across the state.
